RIA — Reverse Intent Analysis

A reverse engineering methodology applied to any output or decision — decomposing what is visible across six layers to uncover real intent, omissions and what the creator reveals.

A reverse engineering methodology applied to any output, decision or market movement. Instead of accepting what is visible at the surface, RIA decomposes what exists across six layers:

  1. What is visible
  2. What may have originated it
  3. The real intent — declared vs. operational vs. strategic
  4. What is not visible (what was omitted)
  5. What this reveals about the creator
  6. What one would do differently and why

Context & Strategy

How it was born

Formalised as a methodology from an analysis pattern that António Martins already used in consulting: before reacting to any proposal, decision or market movement, perform reverse engineering to understand what is behind it. RIA transforms that pattern into a systematic and teachable process.

What it does in practice

Activated whenever there is analysis of an external product, post, campaign, decision or market movement. Supporting frameworks: INVERT, DECIDE-X (Failure Space), EVA, AIceberg (invisible layers). In consulting, it is one of the most powerful tools for diagnosing competitor movements or interpreting market signals.
